No more Slouchasana, Computerasana, Drivingasana!
Since a lot of us carry around tension in our face, neck, and shoulders, we will
start the
workshop by releasing the organs of perception.
We will explore the shoulders' relation to eye tension, jaw tension, and to the diaphragm's breathing patterns. Because we live in such a visually stimualting culture, I include a series of passive and active eye exercises. This is followed by softening the neck muscles/connective tissue and opening the shoulders. When the nerves which innervate the muscles relax, the muscles feel lighter and function more efficiently. This workshop is rooted in a practice of postural awareness. By strengthening, contracting, and stretching a variety of muscles, one of the goals is to learn how to create internal space where we can invite the breath into the body without force so that we can breathe more easily. Releasing shoulder tension can lead to strong an efficient breathing muscles and overall mental ease.
